[Yves Saint Laurent’s Jardin Majorelle – Marrakech, Morocco]

January 8, 2017

“A visit to Marrakech was a great shock to me. This city taught me color”.

-Yves Saint Laurent

“There is a garden in Marrakech, for which I feel a real passion.”

-Yves Saint Laurent

This garden, the “Jardin Majorelle” is a garden painted a striking “live blue” by painter Jacques Majorelle and the inspiration for YSL so much so that it is now a living memorial for the designer. Yves Saint Laurent and Piere Berge bought it in 1980 after falling madly in love with it and Morocco. I hope these few photos inspire you as they inspired us. We made our way to the new city, the other side of Marrakech.

Into the garden!

The camera could not compete with he large cacti

This is a fountain, I still had Argan Oil in my hair

I made Ben pose against this wall. I give you “live blue”

Goodbye for now, garden…

We were already in the area so we walked around a bit and made our way to a restaurant I had looked up that was a bit off the beaten path. Amal, is a women’s restaurant. By this, I mean, the restaurant trains disadvantaged young women and gives them opportunities. These young women really pulled it off, we were impressed they were doing so much so young.

The streets of the new city.

Almost there…

Amal, we have arrived and look at all these fruit!

And, so, we ate

We headed back to the souks!

But also stopped for a little coffee

Back in the souks I looked at all the delicious dried fruit

We found a spot to sit and look at the sunset. We also had this delicious salad while we waited.

It’s hard to describe how awesome this was just by showing a picture.

More sunset…

And, finally, nightfall.

We went back to the market for more shopping.

I bought a glass of fresh squeezed pomegranate juice to cheers to our last night in Marrakech
