Hawaii is one of the only places we can go where rain feels great versus terrible. It is a perfectly non-day-ruining addition to our trip. The day we went to the Ho’omaluhia Botanical Garden in Oahu was the same day we found out at breakfast that we’d have to fly back early for a shelter in place in San Francisco. Our dog’s daycare was closing and we knew we had to book an earlier flight. We sat in the parking lot of the park and booked ourselves the next flight we could which left us with a day where we could hang out in Oahu. We had no choice but to enjoy the park in the beautiful rain for an hour.

There is a path right off the visitor’s center that has some paved and some unpaved walkways, we chose to explore around there. Our plan was to also keep going and drive along the rest of the route but we were honestly a bit demoralized by everything happening back home and it began downpouring so this is the part that we explored.

Price of admission: Free!
Hours: 9AM- 4PM
Address: 45-680 Luluku Rd. Kāneʻohe, Hawaiʻi 96744
Things to note: As with everything else ruined by people behaving badly, you cannot take photos in the first mile of the park because so many tourists have gotten out and taken Instagrams, blocking traffic to the park.
