Day two of our mini road trip through wine country and we woke up to a quick morning work out and stroll through downtown Healdsburg where we stopped by Flying Goat Coffee for some delicious and (Ben’s favorite) bitter black cold brew. We also wandered into Downtown Bakery as it was seemingly the only place opened that early and one with carbs. Mmm carbs.
Next we went into a bit of the remote parts of Healdsburg to meet up with our friends Paul and Monica at the winery they are members of – Medlock Ames. Pro: beautiful, remote, sustainable and organic solar powered farm. Con: windy road. Also at this point we’d listened to the Empire soundtrack about four times through and we desperately need to walk around.
We took a tour which was of course beautiful, people here are spoiled by the outdoor beauty and then sat down for a small food/wine pairing.
Afterwards we made our way down to Jimtown Store + Cafe for a quick lunch and tried one more winery in the area as Ben and I are now drinking the wine filled kool aid and want to be a part of a winery so we have an excuse to come back over and over. We headed over to Stryker Sonoma which had stunning views but less our preference in terms of wine. That being said there is hardly a loss in a $10 tasting with million dollar views.
We made our way to our last hotel in Calistoga but unfortunately the 100 degree temperatures dissuaded us from wearing bathing suits and heading to the area’s amazing hot springs/mud bath combo.
