After many emails Kait, Fran & I decided on a “Friends-mas Dinner” ahead of them leaving for the holidays. Darn my best friend who insists on having a wedding in Bloomington, IL in January. I postponed my vacation days for mid January where I could fly home to Houston for the weekend and catch a (literally) warmer reception.
We agreed upon a $20 gift limit for swapping gifts which I attempted not to completely disregard. I was mostly successful and talked about our year, regrets and where we think we’ll be next year. I personally was glad for it, looking forward to some big changes this year in happiness levels but still grateful to have great friends and family during those dud years.
Kait was in charge of…. well everything but to sum it up – a delicious green bean casserole, salad and “bubble bread” which despite her anger over its collapse is what I have always called monkey bread. She also whipped up one a pomegranate mulled wine via the magazine she works for.
Fran took care of sweet potatoes and chicken after much protest over duck. It was delicious and bathed in butter and wine.
I flopped a too adventurous Buche de Noel but pulled off my gougeres – I’d love to say I followed my mom’s recipe but the truth is I used David Lebovitz’s much more dependable one (must add garlic, must add garlic – the one plus to my mom’s version)
Then we opened presents……..
Now that it’s officially the New Year and I’m posting things extremely late – I’m adding blogging more consistently to my resolutions. Hopefully bi-monthly at least, I just didn’t rise above the fiscal cliff… #badnewsjoke. Anyways my two NYU alum friends who had their engagement party a few months ago are now officially married and invited some of us to a Brooklyn Fillipino Pig Roast Celebration, here are a few outakes as a “sorry I have not been blogging” Bonus:
