[Weekend in Palm Springs, Part 1 – Palm Springs, CA]

May 26, 2016

I have essentially been fighting a cold, headache-migraine combination for three weeks now. My constant traveling hasn’t been doing me any favors but it’s been a bucket list item of mine to make it to Palm Springs. I have an affinity for anything desert like and when we saw the deal cross months ago, we grabbed it. If you find yourself with a Saturday and Sunday in Palm Springs and want to make the most of it, feel free to copy this plan because we honestly had such a fun time I can’t imagine not doing some of this again the next time I’m in town. I’ll also put it this way – there will always continue to be a “next time” in Palm Springs. P.S. I love you.

Coffee Meet Breakfast

Is it 6 am? Have I mentioned I pretty much never sleep, that my body recoils at the thought of a moment of non-anxiety. On the bright side, there was no line at Cheeky’s for breakfast and all coffee places were magically open at 5:30 in the morning. We stopped by Koffi, a local chain and grabbed some cold brews as we slowly made our way to breakfast. Truthfully we didn’t expect this no-frills coffee to be so delicious and also to be seated so quickly. This morning we would be the couple bringing outside beverages in. A total faux pas.

Good morning Palm Springs! Good morning Koffi cafe!

Finally in our seats at Cheeky’s, I ordered up the corn pancakes and of course opted for the blueberries. The steamed corn and blueberry combo was very strange but delicious. Ben got the zucchini latkes and salmon with a juice. We split a bacon flight. Bacon flight is a thing here. Takeaways: disappointed to not have the “Doritos” flavored bacon as advertised by Instagram (despite hating Doritos) and excited to actually be able to tell the difference between tastings.

Uptown Palm Springs, a Modernist Walkabout

If you are in any way a fan of postmodern architecture and mid 50’s, early 60’s vintage…then Palm Springs is the place for you. Lining the streets are furniture stores, art galleries, and vintage thrift shops. I had a really hard time tearing myself away from making impulse purchases. I may have still made one.

So many streets

We stopped at what was supposed to be an awesome mall but alas, closed.

Iconic Atomic is officially my favorite store in Palm Springs, go there or be in 2016. Yes - I did buy this dress.

I made new friends, Ben was very jealous I could tell.

Lighting was tricky in this store as you can imagine but the fun that was had was worht it.

It's okay because he got a bicycle instead

Finally we headed back towards the hotel

Next up, a very prickly botanical garden, our snack stop and of course where we stayed. A preview:
